I'm happy to
invite you all to Legnica. Introducing you this charming town I hope it will

Legnica is
inhabited by 106.895 citizens with the total area of 56,3 km2. It is
third in size town in Lower Silesia, an administrative, economical, cultural and
education centre of the region. It is the seat of self-government authorities
and the capital of Catholic Church Diocese. In the field of economy it is best
known for metallurgy industry, copper processing and textile
industry.
The town is
proud of numerous monumental buildings of high architectural value (the oldest
buildings date back to early 13th century), that represent different
styles, from late roman to secession. The majority of best preserved art. and
architecture monuments are baroque. A place of an exceptional beauty is the town
district called Tarninów, with its charming secession buildings and vast green
areas.
Legnica has always been known for its parks and gardens. Today we have
700 ha of green areas that constantly expand. Town authorities attach special
importance to the protection of natural environment which is reflected by
numerous prestigious national titles and prizes that Legnica was
awarded.
The town
also becomes an energetic academic centre. At present over 12 thousand students
studies in the six colleges in Legnica.
The
town's leading potential is located in its inhabitants who create its image and
prestige. Thanks to its citizens Legnica is a significant cultural centre both
on regional and national scale. It is the town of new, interesting initiatives
such as National Violin Contest 'Young Paganini'. It is also the hometown of
such prestigious events as International Exhibition of Satirical Drawings
'Satyrykon', International Silver Art Exhibitions, National Choir Contest
'Legnica - Cantat' or The European Meetings of National and Ethnical
Minorities 'Pod Kyczerą'.
I welcome You to a
European town awarded with the Honorary Diploma of the European Council and the
European Council Flag, the town very likely to become the second important
cultural and economical centre of Lower Silesia, next to its capital Wrocław. I
